The repeater GB3BV is mainly intended to provide 70 cms coverage of Hemel Hempstead town, and from there up the Bulbourne valley (followed by the A41 and the Grand Union Canal), and up the river Gade valley (followed by the A4146). To give the best coverage of these two valleys the repeater has been located as close as possible to the point where the lines of the two valleys cross, so that the repeater "looks" up both of them. This point is several kilometres to the south east of Hemel Hempstead, near the edge of the intended service area, and because of this a directional aerial has been used to give the best coverage of the area from Hemel Hempstead towards the Chiltern Hills, while reducing duplication of GB3HR’s and GB3VH’s coverage.

Normal/battery modes -
Should the mains electricity to the repeater be interrupted for any reason the repeater will automatically change over to stand-by batteries, and the repeater will indicate this by superimposing a low level two-tone "police siren" sound on all transmissions. If you hear this please restrict the use of the repeater to essential traffic so as to conserve the batteries.
